Thunder Bay will be hosting representative from 100 municipalities this week at the spring meeting of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM).

“We’re proud to have been chosen to host these important events,” said Mayor Keith Hobbs in a March 3 news release. “I’m looking forward to the meetings and the discussions that will take place with a broad representation of Canadian municipalities.”

The spring meeting is expected to include discussions on the new Building Canada Fund, rail safety, a Canadian housing strategy, as well as the next federal election, scheduled for 2015.

FCM members will also participate in a Women in Politics session, Mar. 8.

“This will be an exciting, informative and inspiring event,” said Thunder Bay councillor Rebecca Johnson. “Our goal is to get more women involved in politics, and this is a wonderful way to do just that.”
