Thunder Bay's Confederation College received $208,000 in provincial pre-apprentice training funds for 16 people to prepare for careers in construction, electrical, carpentry, welding, roofing, and stone/brick masonry.

The money comes through the Pre-Apprenticeship Training program.

“Tremendous job opportunities exist in the trades fields -- these are good-paying jobs in high-value careers,” said Thunder Bay-Atikokan MPP Bill Mauro in a March 8 statement. “Confederation College is a leader in skilled trades training in Thunder Bay. This pre-apprenticeship program provides participants with the right technical background they need to successfully acquire these great jobs."

“We absolutely have a need for skilled trades people as our region grows and prospers, and with new opportunities like the Ring of Fire, there will be a strong demand for many years to come,” added Michael Gravelle, Thunder Bay-Superior North MPP. “We want to be sure those good-paying jobs are available to benefit people in Northwestern Ontario. This funding will do exactly that, and Confederation College is well-positioned to give them the skills they need in those primary and secondary trades.”
