Maureen Jensen, chair and CEO of the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC), is the recipient of the 2016 Canadian Professional Geoscientist Award.

Her career as a mineral exploration geologist, a corporate leader and later as a capital market regulator spans more than 35 years.

Jensen, who grew up in Sudbury, has been the OSC’s executive director and CAO since 2011.

The award recognizes an individual, who has made an outstanding contribution to the development and practice of professional geoscience and who has advanced public recognition of the profession in Canada in his/her capacity as a geoscientist.

In June 17 release, Hendrik Falck, president of Geoscientists Canada, commented: “Maureen’s work spanning from leading junior exploration efforts in Canada’s north, to work on the Mining Standards Task Force, to helping establish and lead the Association of Professional Geoscientists of Ontario (APGO), to later roles in market trading surveillance and now capital market oversight is a credit to our profession and a great example to young geoscientists.”

Jensen received the Women in Mining Trailblazer Award in 2014 and twice landed on Toronto Life’s 50 Most Influential list in 2013 and 2014.
