Cambrian College has chosen Peter Lawlor. Dean of the School of Trades at Northern Alberta Institute of Technology to replace Sylvia Barnard as president.

Lawlor comes with extensive business and post-secondary experience, Cambrian said in a news release.

In his current portfolio, he serves more than 10,000 students in more than 30 programs at NAIT.

Lawlor will assume his duties on July 1. He will be Cambrian's fifth president. Barnard is retiring after 11 years as president.

Board Chair Roger Emdin said the Board is extremely pleased to be able to welcome Lawlor to Cambrian and to Sudbury.

“The College's next president is a visionary leader who has a proven ability to translate ideas into action,” Emdin said. “He has extensive experience in academia both as an administrator and a teacher. He also has experience in business as an owner and entrepreneur. He believes that success is achieved by working for and with people. We look forward to working with Mr. Lawlor and helping Cambrian achieve new levels of success.”

Lawlor's leadership skills have been augmented by his roles on provincial and national boards, according to the press release. He is currently the president of Skills Canada, Alberta, a position that underscores his personal passion for students success and life-long learning.
