SIS Manufacturing Corp. is expanding its steel machining operation, which will create 10 new jobs at the Sault Ste. Marie shop.

The province announced a contribution of $1 million toward the expansion on May 24. The project includes a major capital expansion to the facility and the purchase of several pieces of industrial machinery.

SIS Manufacturing provides finishing and shipping of locomotive train underframes.

“We at SISMFG are proud to be a Sault Ste. Marie-based company and appreciate the support from NOHFC and hope to maintain the quality and production numbers necessary for continued success,” said Tony Porco, president of SIS Manufacturing, in a release.

“Since the purchase of our new dual-head Panasonic robotic welders, we have added the cutting-edge technology we need to compete and maintain quality.”

The company last expanded in 2012, constructing a brand-new 36,000-square-foot facility, which runs alongside SIS’s original 37,000-square-foot shop.

The company has increased its workforce from 30 employees in 2011 to 51 employees today.
