Sault Ste. Marie has been chosen to host the 30th annual conference for Festivals & Events Ontario in 2017.

The community was selected from a shortlist of four communities throughout the province. The Destination North Discovery Group and Tourism Sault Ste. Marie were instrumental in securing the event.

“We are absolutely thrilled to announce the selection of Sault Ste. Marie as the 2017 host for our annual conference,” said Kathrin Delutis, FEO’s chief executive officer.

“We feel confident in the city’s ability to rally community partners to welcome conference attendees to a unique location that blends the amenities of a regional urban centre with the breathtaking beauty of Northern Ontario.”

FEO is the provincial body representing the interests of Ontario’s tourism industry. The 2017 conference is expected to attract more than 300 festival and event professionals from across the province.

According to the Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corp., between 2011 and 2014, the Sault secured 116 events, which drew 22,632 delegates and led to $13.5 million of direct visitor spending into the local economy.
