The Rural Agri-Innovation Network in Sault Ste. Marie will host a networking event geared towards stakeholders in the food and agriculture industry.

The Growing Connections event will take place on May 11 at the Willow Teaching Restaurant at Sault College.

It’s geared toward farmers, producers (including aquaculture), breweries, wineries, chefs, restaurateurs, caterers, food buyers, retailers, food distributors, abattoirs, processors, public and private sector institutions, food service and economic development organizations.

The goal is to connect industry producers with those who buy, distribute and serve the products. The event is for those who are currently, or would like to learn more about, buying and selling locally produced food and drink products.
“Our goal for this event is to stimulate connections between farmers/producers and purchasers in the Algoma District to increase market opportunities and thereby strengthen the local food economy,” event coordinator Sandra Trainor said in a news release.

Included in the event is a business-to-business “speed dating” trade show, information on web-based tools for stakeholders to sell and locate local food, a chef’s guide to procuring local food, and a farmer’s guide to working with the food service industry.

The event is free of charge, but registration is required.
