Nipissing-Timiskaming MP Jay Aspin dropped more than $9 million in Industry Canada grants in his riding for three telecommunication projects.
Broadband provider NorthernTel netted $548,160 to improve fibre optics in the Temagami area. Xplornet received subsidies of $5,279,082 and $3,208,879 to improve broadband throughout Nipissing-Timiskaming and Parry Sound regions, respectively.
“Affordable and reliable access to the internet will help level the playing field for residents in my region, especially businesses,” said Aspin. “Since I was elected in 2011, a significant number of constituents have contacted me about their lack of access to quality internet services. I have listened carefully to these concerns and I have acted in a meaningful way to bring them the results that will make a difference.”
