Nordex expanding into southern Ontario

Nordex Explosives Ltd. , which is headquartered in Kirkland Lake, is expanding its operations to the Ottawa-Kingston area.

Nordex Explosives Ltd., which is headquartered in Kirkland Lake, is expanding its operations to the Ottawa-Kingston area.

The company is finalizing an agreement to establish a storage and distribution facilities to service the quarry and construction market in the area. It’s expected the facilities will be operational in the first half of 2015.

The new operations will complement existing facilities previously established in Ontario including Kirkland Lake (primarily mining), Sudbury (mining and construction), Manitoulin Island (construction), Matheson (mining) and Muskoka (mining and construction).

Nordex is also working on implementing cost-saving initiatives for clients.

“We believe the long-term success of Nordex Explosives Ltd. is dependent on our ability to assist our clients in being cost-effective and profitable by providing them with the best service in the industry and promoting the effective use of the unique qualities of our products and equipment,” president and CEO Jim Taylor said in a news release.

“As part of our commitment to this philosophy we have developed products with characteristics that maximize their performance and built a team of professionals to support their maximum utilization.”

Nordex is continuing with its expansion into Western Canada, which it announced last spring. The company has entered a joint venture with Privco, to sell and distribute packaged explosives products, accessories and material in Western Canada. The proposed deal is 50/50 joint venture corporation to be called Newco.

The company has secured a location and applications are being made for operational licences. Nordex and its joint venture partner are targeting both the mining and construction sectors, with expected sales to commence in the first half of 2015.
