Nipissing University’s Biomass Innovation Centre is no more.

After a six-year run, staff members Dawn Lambe and Francis Gallo issued a May 22 news release of the North Bay university’s decision to “shelve” BIC as part of an ongoing “restructuring effort and new strategic direction.”

BIC was an advocacy group promoting the establishing of a biomass and bioenergy economy in Northern Ontario.

However, Lambe and Gallo said they’re going in a new direction with the formation of a new group, the Biomass North Development Centre.

The group will be taking the form of an industry association catering to the needs of small and medium sized businesses in this sector, serving as consultants and hosting industry tours.

The group said it will continue its work of building a skills and training plan for Ontario, pushing for regulatory and policy reform, helping to create supply chains, establishing bioenergy/biofuel projects, and promoting innovation and regional food security.

“Stay in touch for further updates and thank you for your patience during this transition period.”
