The renovation and expansion of the terminal building at North Bay’s Jack Garland Airport were publicly unveiled on March 24.

An airport news release said the new configuration provides the airport with the ability to better support the demand of current operators and passengers, and delivers 2,242 square feet of new space for future growth in the local aviation sector.

The $2.2-million project began last May and was substantially completed in February.

The improvements to the main entrance and lobby addressed building deficiencies caused by post 9-11 security requirements and continuous passenger growth.

The airport needed more office and check-in space for large charter flights, diverted schedule flights from Toronto and possibly a third incoming air carrier.

An expanded hold room can accommodate 154 passengers and more space allows for two airlines to simultaneously board flights with the addition of a second gate.

Two accessible washrooms were added and additional space was created for vending services.
