A trio of economic development projects in the North Bay and Parry Sound regions will benefit from $1.1 million in funding.

The largest chunk of money, $1 million, will go help pay for recent upgrades at Memorial Gardens designed to transform the North Bay arena into a modern, multi-use facility that will help attract and host provincial, national and international business, entertainment and tourism-related events, such as conventions, conferences, and trade shows.

The funding was used to purchase concert equipment, removable seating, staging and lighting; install a new video control board and camera equipment; expand parking; and upgrade the building’s electrical system.

The Business Centre Nipissing Parry Sound is getting $74,253 to set up two youth job strategy programs in Nipissing and Parry Sound. One program will offer entrepreneurship training to 54 youths over 12 weeks, while the second will offer workshops and apprenticeship activities to area high school students.

Finally, the Discovery Routes Trails Organization will receive $31,500 to hire a youth intern for one year. The intern will work to connect Nipissing with the province’s cycling programs.
