The director of a Mississauga company pleaded guilty and was fined $3,000 in a North Bay courtroom for failing to ensure that workers on elevated work platforms were using safety belts.
The workers were performing stucco work on the exterior of a five-storey office building in North Bay on October 2011 when a Ministry of Labour inspector dropped by.
The workers were employed by ADN Stucco Ltd. The company director is Cemal Coksurer, who also owned the building.
The inspector observed that three of the four workers were not wearing safety belts attached to the work platform.
In court on March 21, Coksurer pleaded guilty to failing to take all reasonable care to ensure that his company complied with the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Justice of the Peace Michael Moreau imposed the fine of $3,000.
In addition to the fine, the court imposed a 25-per-cent victim fine surcharge as required by the Provincial Offences Act.
