FedNor is providing funding for three Northern Ontario enterprises in the areas of mining and agriculture.

The Sagamok Anishnawbek First Nation, located on the North Shore of Lake Huron, will receive $500,000 to build an industrial park to capitalize on immediate and long-term economic opportunities generated by rapid growth in the regional mining sector.

Funding will be used for road construction, the extension of water and electrical services to the site, and for the design, inspection and certification of the industrial park. Once complete, the park will have four fully serviced industrial lots covering 2.5 acres.

The Eat Local Sudbury Co-operative received $46,500 to complete a business plan so it can expand its operations and position the city as a regional distribution hub for Northeastern Ontario agriculture and agri-food products.

The funds will be used to conduct market research, form strategic alliances with industry and community stakeholders, identify opportunities for farmers to increase food production, and determine site and facility requirements for the organization’s new distribution centre.

Temiskaming’s Thornloe Cheese Inc. will receive $15,000 to complete an operational assessment to improving manufacturing processes and increase production.

The funding was doled out in conjunction with Small Business Week, which celebrates the contributions small and medium-sized businesses make to the Canadian economy.
