The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund (NOHFC) spread $1.2 million around the Kenora area for four economic development projects and initiatives.
The Anishinaabeg of Naongashiing First Nation, located on Lake of the Woods, received $725,000 to develop a store and tourist centre.
The Rainy River Future Development Corporation pocketed $270,750 for its project developments.
The City of Kenora's third phase of downtown revitalization along Second Street will be supported with $125,000.
The Anishinaabeg of Kabapikotawangag Resource Council in Sioux Narrows gets $64,966 to “increase natural resource development opportunities in the area.”
“The NOHFC continues to be a key tool for building a stronger, more competitive economy, and prosperous Northern communities,” said Northern Development and Mines Minister and NOHFC chairman Michael Gravelle in an Aug. 8 statement.
