Almost a half-million dollars from Ottawa landed at the Parry Sound Area Municipal Airport, Jan. 15.
FedNor funding of $496,650 will be used to extend airport road, water, sewer, hydro and fire suppression services. A government release said the money will meet the growing demand by business for serviced land at the facility.
“Business expansion at the Parry Sound Area Municipal Airport is set to take off and reach new heights with today’s announcement,” said Tony Clement, Parry Sound-Muskoka MPP and Treasury Board president in a news release. “This initiative will propel further private sector development through shared infrastructure at the airport industrial park and allow for greater access to diverse aviation services for the economic benefit of the whole region.”
The airport is expected to attract $4 million in private sector investment and create 30 jobs over the next two years.
Since 2006, Ottawa provided nearly $1.5 million to the airport, which the government said has secured and leverage more than $6 million from private sector investors, create seven businesses and more than 55 jobs.
