Nipigon’s waterfront and its tourist attractions will be undergoing a makeover with assistance from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund.

Nipigon’s waterfront and its tourist attractions will be undergoing a makeover with assistance from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund.

The township is receiving $1 million from the province to develop its Railway Street lookout tower and rest area to provide visitors with a view of the waterfront and the new Nipigon River Bridge, now under construction.

In addition, Nipigon will construct a lagoon boardwalk to provide public access to the shoreline and an events park for hosting special events, concerts and festivals.

“By developing its scenic waterfront,” said Northern Development and Mines Minister Michael Gravelle, “Nipigon is building on its reputation for great fishing and magnificent natural landscapes and bringing tourists to the Superior North region.”
