A pair of festivals being held in Sault Ste. Marie has received provincial backing.

The Algoma Arts Festival Association has received $75,000 for the Algoma Fall Festival, and another $75,000 is going to the 1812 Bicentennial History Fest. The funding is being allocated for programming and services, attracting new audiences and creating local jobs.

“Festivals like these draw visitors from near and far, generating more local business and helping to create jobs in Sault Ste. Marie,” said David Orazietti, Sault MPP and natural resources minister, in a news release. “Celebrate Ontario funding is one important way to support these wonderful local festivals and events that bring so much life to our community.”

According to the province, festivals and events generate more than 22,000 jobs in Ontario annually. In 2011, Ontario's tourism reached more than $23 billion and supported over 300,000 direct and indirect jobs.
