Oban Mining Corp. is changing its name to Osisko Mining Inc.

The company said the name change will better reflect the “evolution of the corporation since the beginning of its consolidation activities in Ontario and Quebec.”

The company said rebranding initiatives would follow shortly.

Much of the current Oban executive team was responsible for the discovery, by the original Osisko Mining Corp., of the Canadian Malartic Mine in the Abitibi region of Quebec, which is now the second largest gold producer in Canada.

Osisko was acquired and absorbed by Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. and Yamana Gold Inc. in 2014.

The company expects the Toronto Stock Exchange to reflect the change by June 21. The company’s new trading symbol will be OSK.

Oban/Osisko owns the Quebec properties of Windfall Lake, Urban Barry, and Marban, in addition to properties in Larder Lake in Ontario, including the Jonpol and Garrcon deposits on the Garrison property, the Buffonta past producing mine, and the Gold Pike mine property.

The corporation also holds interests and options in a number of additional properties in Northern Ontario. Osisko is well financed with approximately $74 million in cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities.
