The province will conduct an inquest into the death of Sudbury miner Stephen Perry.

Perry, 47, was killed on Jan. 29, 2012, while working as a development miner at Vale's Coleman Mine in Levack. Perry died after he was struck by a 14-ton piece of rock that broke from the wall when he was working at the 4,215-foot level of the mine.

An inquest, mandatory under the Coroners Act, will examine the events surrounding Perry's death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.

The inquest is expected to last five days and to hear from approximately 10 witnesses.

In 2013, following a year-long investigation into Perry’s death, the Ministry of Labour announced no charges would be laid under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 22, 2016, at the Sudbury Courthouse, Dr. Raymond Sawkiw will preside as inquest coroner and Roberta Bald will be counsel to the coroner.
