In a news release, the company said employee Alexie Dallaire-Vincent was killed in an underground rail haulage accident on May 23. The Holt property is located 125 kilometres east of Timmins.

The Ontario Provincial Police have attended onsite, and an investigation is ongoing in conjunction with the Ontario Ministry of Labour and the company.

“We are deeply saddened by this news and our sincere condolences go out to the family, fellow workers, and friends,” president and CEO Duncan Middlemiss said in a statement. “SAS is co-operating with the ongoing investigation, as well as providing support to family and employees at the mine site.

“SAS is committed to the well-being of our employees and contractors on all of our sites,” he added. “A safe workplace is the fundamental principle of the company, and this tragedy has strengthened our resolve in this pursuit.”

This is the second fatality at the Holt complex in less than a year.

St Andrew Goldfields currently operates the Holt, Holloway and Hislop Mines in the Timmins area, and is continuing exploration activities.
