Kapuskasing Gold (KAP) has launched a second round of exploration at its Borden North and Rollo properties in northeastern Ontario.
The Vancouver-based junior announced May 13 that exploration is underway to follow up on last year’s prospecting which returned significant gold values, including some high-grade gold surface samples at Rollo.
Kapuskasing Gold properties are situated along a projected extension of the Destor-Porcupine fault zone inside a burgeoning belt for gold exploration and mine development. The area hosts several multi-million ounce gold producers in the Timmins camp, and sits between IAMGOLD's Cote Lake gold deposit and Goldcorp's Borden Gold project.
Field work will consist of more prospecting, mapping and sampling with the view to identifying specific drill locations for testing later this year.
The Borden North Property is located 46 kilometres northeast of Goldcorp’s Borden Lake Gold Deposit and is in a similar geological setting, according to the company’s news release.
Rollo is situated to the southeast and is 13 kilometres south of a planned haul ore route from the Borden Deposit to Goldcorp's operations in Timmins.
Mike Tremblay, who co-discovered the Borden Deposit, will conduct KAP's exploration program.
"With our first pass having yielded gold mineralization at Borden North and high grade at Rollo, we are excited to get back out on the ground,” said Garry Clark, KAP's exploration manager in a statement. "The Borden Camp, the newest of Ontario's major gold camps, will have Goldcorp as its backbone for years to come and KAP is very well positioned as the understanding of this area evolves."
