Richmont Mines announced Renaud Adams in its new president and CEO, effective Nov.15.

With 20 years of industry experience, Adams comes over from Primero Mining where he served in the same position. Prior to that he made stops at IAMGOLD, Cambior and Breakwater Resources.

Richmont runs the Island Gold Mine near Dubreuilville in northeastern Ontario.

Greg Chamandy, Richmont’s executive chairman of the board, was pleased with the hiring.

“His experience in the gold sector will be of tremendous benefit to Richmont, and will enhance the development of our high-grade gold resource below our Island Gold Mine in Ontario, which is currently a 1.1 million ounce inferred resource.”

Besides Island Gold, Richmont’s operations include the Beaufor and Monique Mines in Quebec. The company is also advancing deeper development at Island Gold.

It’s been a good year so far at Richmont with 23,187 ounces produced in the third quarter, a 58 per cent over year increase that brings production for the first nine months of 2014 to 71,354 ounces, a 68 per cent increase over the same period last year.

The strong performance at Island Gold spurred Richmont to increase 2014 gold production guidance to 85,000 to 90,000 ounces of gold, up from 75,000 to 85,000 ounces.
