Mining network issues pan-Canadian call for proposals

The Ultra-Deep Mining Network (UDMN) has set out a national call for proposals to find additional partners.

The Ultra-Deep Mining Network (UDMN) has set out a national call for proposals to find additional partners.

An initiative of the Centre for Excellence in Mining Innovation (CEMI), the Sudbury-based network is conducting research and development for ultra-deep mining applications — mining beyond 2.5 kilometres — that can eventually be commercialized for use in the Canadian and global markets.

"We are excited to grow our portfolio of projects under the Think Deep Program and welcome new network members,” says Bora Ugurgel, the network’s managing director. "This program provides us with an opportunity to connect with new partners across Canada that can provide innovative solutions to solve ultra-deep mining challenges."

The network is focused on the areas of rock stress risk reduction, energy reduction and optimization, material transport and productivity, and improved human health.

Interested applicants are asked to submit a letter of intent by Nov. 10.
