Nordex has deep discussion with CEMI

By: Northern Ontario Business staff

Kirkland Lake’s Nordex Explosives announced it has been contacted by the Centre for Excellence in Mining Innovation (CEMI) in Sudbury about the potential to collaborate on deep mining projects.

In a news release, the company said the discussions focused on Nordex’s “innovative approached and successes” achieved with its unique formulations and technologies in underground mines.

Nordex makes and distributes explosives for the mining, quarry and construction industries. CEMI is a Sudbury-based institute for underground mining innovation.

Officials from both organizations met on a trip to the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum convention in Vancouver during May.

The company said CEMI followed up by recently visiting Nordex’s manufacturing facility.

"It is anticipated that a relationship with CEMI has the potential to introduce our unique ideas and acquired knowledge to a larger audience and increase demand for our proprietary products and technologies in 2014 and beyond,” said Jim Taylor, Nordex president and CEO in a statement.
