Vic Pakalnis, president and CEO of MIRARCO Mining Innovation in Sudbury, has been recognized for his work in the field of health and safety by Minerva Canada Safety Management Education Inc. Pakalnis will share the award with Dr. Anis Haque, a professor in electrical and computer engineering at the University of Calgary in Alberta.

The award, established in 2011, recognizes individuals from academia, government, industry and health and safety associations for their long-standing contributions to advance health and safety education in Canadian postsecondary teaching institutions.

Pakalnis was recognized for contributions in promoting health and safety while working with the Ontario government, Queen’s University and MIRARCO. According to a news release, he has been instrumental in establishing important partnerships for Minerva with academia, government and industry, in addition to contributing to educational programs and resources.

Pakalnis will receive the award at a dinner in Waterloo in April.
