Ontario Graphite has named Tom Burkett as its new CEO.

Based in Toronto, Burkett has more than 30 years of experience in the graphite and carbon industry with companies such as SGL Group, The Carbon Company and GrafTech International.

Ontario Graphite is a privately owned mining company that’s bringing the former Kearney Mine back into production, about 80 kilometres south of North Bay.

Last May, the Ontario Ministry of the Environment approved all final operating permits for the re-commissioning of the Kearney Graphite Mine.

"My commitment is to continue to operate with safety and environmental stewardship as the values core to our work and to move the re-commissioning forward as quickly as feasibly possible,” said Burkett in a March 20 statement.

"His extensive leadership and industry experience will guide and focus our organization as the Kearney Mine ramps up to production and we establish our reputation as the premier producer of natural flake graphite in North America,” said Jesse Rodriquez, co-lead on the company’s board of directors.
