Northern College and Glencore’s Kidd Operations have signed an agreement to collaborate on training students for work in the mining industry through the Haileybury School of Mines. The signing formalizes an agreement that was announced in February.

One of the first programs offered through the partnership is the underground hard rock miner common core program, delivered at the 2,400 training level at the Kidd Operations mine site in Timmins.

The training program is based on the modularized common core training standards and guidelines developed by the Ontario Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development.

The modular training program provides students with the skills and knowledge needed to be an underground hard rock miner. The first cohort of students to complete the 12-week training program graduated on July 15. Regular intakes will continue throughout the year.
