The Ontario Waterpower Association (OWA) is launching new Aboriginal programming through the University of Sudbury.
An Aug. 6 joint release said a new partnership agreement will focus on “enhancing indigenous education for waterpower industry professionals.”
“The University of Sudbury's Department of Indigenous Studies promotes an understanding of Aboriginal peoples, their traditions, aspirations and participation in communities,” said association president Paul Norris, in an Aug. 6 release. “This relationship will help advance education while enhancing the understanding of Indigenous culture for members of our association.”
“The University of Sudbury and the OWA share the belief that indigenous education is of significant value to today’s leaders.” said Dr. Pierre Zundel, the university’s president and vice-chancellor. “We look forward to contributing to this initiative.”
The Ontario Waterpower Association is an industry group representing 150 members engaged in the hydroelectric industry in the province.
The University of Sudbury is a bilingual institution located on the grounds of Laurentian University that promotes the preservation of First Nation culture and traditions.
