Northern College has circled July 28 for an official groundbreaking ceremony for a new residence building at its Haileybury campus.
The proposed four-storey building will provide lodgings for 64 students in 16 apartment-style units. Construction is scheduled to be completed by August, 2015.
The residence will be located in RockWalk Park. Discussions are ongoing to determine new locations for the park features that will be displaced by the development.
Campus Living Centres will build and assume operation of the residence once complete.
“The Haileybury Campus is home to both our immensely successful School of Veterinary Sciences and the world-renowned Haileybury School of Mines,” said Northern College president Fred Gibbons in a statement. “This campus attracts a number of students from outside of the Temiskaming Shores area who would certainly benefit from an on-campus housing option.”
The college said the demand for accommodations in Haileybury arises from a dramatic increase in enrolment with the veterinary school.
