The value of building permits issued by the City of North Bay reached more than $47 million in the first five months of this year.

The tally of $47,420,958 represents an increase of 79 per cent over the same period last year, and 200 per cent over the year-to-date number on June 1, 2014.

“Incredible strong start to the year, thanks to large projects in our city,” said Mayor Al McDonald in a news release.  “We are hearing from investors and developers that there continues to be a lot of interest in our city. Council and staff’s number one priority is building the city.  This focus and strategy is paying dividends for our community.”

McDonald cited some major construction projects underway including a new $5.5-million government fire management centre at the airport industrial park, a $12-million hotel, a $15-million health unit building and residential building permits amounting to $6 million.

Commercial permitting led all categories at $23.7 million, followed by institutional at $16.4 million, residential at $6.7 million, and miscellaneous work at $139,010.
