East of Dryden, two construction contracts have been awarded to replace three highway bridges on the Trans-Canada Highway in northwestern Ontario.

L.H. North has been awarded a $5.2-million contract to replace the Little Wabigoon River and Melgund River bridges.

Nor Eng Construction & Engineering has been awarded a $3.8-million contract to reconstruct the Nugget Creek Bridge.

In the northeast, Bonnechere Excavating has been awarded a $1.2-million contract to carve out better rock cuts along a 17-kilometre stretch of Highway 11 near Temagami. Work begins this spring at 28 locations along the road.

Looby Construction landed a $5.4-million contract to replace two bridges over the Batchawana and Carp Rivers on the Trans-Canada, north of Sault Ste. Marie.

Teranorth Construction and Engineering was awarded a $6.8-million contract to improve three bridges over Catfish Creek, the Magpie and Michipicoten Rivers near Wawa this year.

R.W. Tomlinson Limited has been awarded the $3.5-million contract to replace the Otasawian River bridge on Highway 11 west of Hearst.

“Our investment in the Northern Highways Program ensures that vital transportation links are expanded and improved for local residents, visitors and industries. The expansion of Highway 11 will see the creation of about 35 new local jobs and will provide greater safety and improved roadways for Northerners,” said Minister of Northern Development and Mines Michael Gravelle in a statement.
