Tembec shutters national operations

By: Northern Ontario Business Staff

The Hearst Tembec sawmill will fall victim to shutdown in light of continued hardship in the lumber, pulp and newsprint markets.
Effective Feb. 9, the mill will close its doors for six weeks, a move which affects roughly 125 employees. It has an annual capacity of 160 million board feet.
This is part of a wave of closures which affects all of Tembec's British Columbia facilities, impacting 975 employees, as well as a newsprint mill in Manitoba.
Tembec has indicated these shutdowns will force a review of fibre supply and procurement needs.
