Retirement complex developed

By: Northern Ontario Business Staff

A mothballed Sault Ste. Marie high school is being razed to make way for a $5-million seniors' retirement complex. Alert Care Corp, a Richmond Hill operator of two dozen retirement homes in Ontario, will demolish the former Sault Collegiate high school in the coming months and build a two-storey structure of 50,000 to 60,000 square feet including 85 studio one- and two-bedroom suites. The Collegiate Heights Retirement Home is slated for occupancy next year and is expected to employ 19 full- and part-time staff. The property, situated atop a ridge near the city's downtown, offers a spectacular panoramic view of the city and the St. Mary's River.
