Tembec Industries has been fined $100,000, plus a victim fine surcharge of $20,000, after entering a guilty plea on 14 pollution charges. In early May, the company admitted to dumping a contaminant into the environment between December 1998 and August 2000 and failing to report it. The company will also donate $50,000 to the town of Smooth Rock Falls for use in a local project.
