Community paper closes its doors (09/01)

By: Northern Ontario Business Staff

The Kirkland Lake Gazette is shutting down after eight years of operation, citing a shrinking local market and slowing conditions in the national industry. Owned by Temiskaming Printing Ltd, the weekly paper's final edition was Sept.7. The publication employed seven full-time staff and numerous part-timers. Ownership felt the newspaper was making steady progress, but noted the community could not support two newspapers.
