Fedeli wants WSIB bill repealed

By: Northern Ontario Business staff

Upon recall of the Ontario Legislature this month, the Liberals and their new leader need to repeal Bill 119 and its crippling tax on small businesses, independent tradespeople and contractors, Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli said.

Fedeli was joined by local tradespeople Steve Ciglen, Brent Tremblay and John Best at the local launch of the Fix the WSIB campaign to protest the new tax on independent operators, sole proprietors, partners in partnerships and executive officers of corporations that came into effect on Jan. 1.

“This is, plain and simple, a tax on hard-working Ontarians designed to cover up the Liberal government’s mess,” said Fedeli, who noted the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) currently has a $14 billion unfunded liability.

“This is cutting into the earnings of small businesses and contractors, and for some, it could be the straw that breaks their financial backs.”

The launch included the unveiling of a website – www.fixthewsib.ca. – and Fedeli announced a petition calling for repeal of Bill 119 is available at his constituency office and on his website, www.fedeli.com.
