Fowler Construction of Bracebridge has been awarded an $8.4 million provincial highway contract in northeastern Ontario.
The province said 80 jobs will be created from reconstructing 25 kilometres of Highway 60 through Algonquin Provincial Park. Construction begins this spring with completion sometime in 2014.
In Thunder Bay, the province is conducting a preliminary design study and environmental assessment on a 13-kilometre stretch of Highway 11-17, also known as the Thunder Bay Expressway.
The study will identify improvements on the section between Arthur and Balsam Streets, including possibly widening it to a divided four-lane roadway and building new interchanges. The study starts this summer and will be completed by 2015.
A consultant will be hired to undertake the study. The tendering process should take six months.
